Fran Millar

Fran Millar is partly responsible for the success of Team Sky, ensuring every member of the team is constantly striving to get the best out of themselves, through continuous improvement and marginal gains. She is Head of both Business Operations and Winning Behaviours and an integral part of a model high performing team.

In her role as Head of Winning Behaviours, Fran Millar looks after Team Sky’s values, culture and people. A role introduced at the end of 2013 when the team had successfully won two consecutive editions of the Tour de France, its primary function is to focus the organisation on continuous improvement. She is responsible for overall team performance, and how each individual performance fits into the overall team jigsaw.

Prior to taking on the Winning Behaviours role, Fran was Head of Business Operations – which involved looking after all the team’s “off bike” functions. These included the team’s marketing and communications strategy, stakeholder management, and all the commercial and legal aspects that come with running the world’s number one cycling team. Fran has worked alongside Sir Dave Brailsford since 2007, and after helping build Team Sky from the bottom up, has remained at the heart of the team since its inception in February 2009.

She describes the internal changes that led to Sir Bradley’s Wiggins’ success in the 2012 Tour de France, and how the team as a whole all bought into a high-performance culture. The lessons Fran covers applies to businesses all over the world, who can learn a vast amount from her experience of overcoming countless obstacles to be the best in the world.
