Gary signed for Manchester United in 1977 and went on to become their number one goalkeeper. He played 373 competitive matches, including 2 European semi-finals and he also won 2 FA cup medals. He also played for England from 1978 to 1986 and was part of the 1986 world cup squad that made the quarter finals in Mexico. During the 1986 world cup, Gary seriously injured his knee and retired from top class football at the comparatively young age of 28.
Following his retirement he turned his attention to the media and became the anchor soccer presenter at Supersport, and has been one of Southern Africa's top speakers for the last 12 years. Gary was also one of the ambassadors for South Africa's successful 2010 soccer world cup bid.
As a motivational speaker Gary talks passionately about his experiences of football including his FA Cup Final appearances. Using his MBA training he shows how Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Bobby Robson used their leadership skills to achieve their successes. He has a warm and engaging down to earth manner.
