Motivational Speakers
What makes a good motivational speaker?
In this article, we will attempt to answer the question of what exactly makes a good motivational speaker.
The purpose of motivational speakers is to motivate and engage an audience to give them the inspiration to produce improved performance. But how do they go about this? The following are just some of the qualities that good motivational speakers should have.
Confident - One of the most important pre-requisites for motivational speakers is that they are confident. Addressing hundreds of people at a time takes a lot of confidence and this is essential if they are to be successful in their motivational aims.
Engaging - Motivational speakers need to engage their audience effectively and hold their attention. Most crucially, they need to make people buy in to the concepts they are attempting to sell. To use a sales analogy, you are much more likely to buy from a person who you like, someone who makes you feel good about what they are trying to sell. Therefore, it is important that your audience buys the person, as much as what they are saying.
If the audience can identify with the speaker, then it stands to reason that they will get more out of what they have to say. For this reason, sports stars in particular make good motivational speakers as most people can identify with their achievements.
Energetic and enthusiastic - Enthusiasm is infectious, so the more enthusiastic a motivational speaker is, the more likely people are to get excited about what they have to say. The more energetic a speaker is in their delivery, then the more likely people will sit up and take note of them.
Rapport - Good motivational speakers will be aware of their audience and will be able to relate what they are saying to the people they are addressing. Choosing the right motivational speaker for you involves looking closely at your audience and choosing a candidate who is likely to appeal to the majority of people present.
Credibility - Good motivational speakers should have credibility so that the audience takes them seriously. The most successful motivational speakers tend to be sporting greats, business gurus or extreme adventurers. Motivational speakers who have overcome great challenges can also really inspire.
Humorous - Humour is a great tool for any motivational speaker to have in their locker. Some audiences can be difficult but if the speaker engages them with laughter the speaker has a far better chance of delivering the right powerful, motivational message.
Story telling - Good motivational speakers have the ability to take people on a journey with the pewer of their story telling. This transports the audience to a different place enabeling them to suspend belief and get fully engaged in what the motivational speaker is telling them.
